Before beginning her teaching career, Mrs. Miller worked in a local leather store whose owner often shared his passion for his previous career in teaching. Mrs. Miller was particularly inspired by the love and joy that sparkled whenever he talked of his days as a teacher. It was that experience that brought her into teaching.
Mrs. Miller holds a BA in African American Studies and her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential from UC Davis. She began her career teaching the “At Risk Program” at Carpinteria Middle School for 7th and 8th Grades. Next she taught multiple grade levels for over six years in local Carpinteria public schools and an independent school in Boulder Colorado where she began teaching the Carden Curriculum that is also used at Howard. “I feel how a professional athlete must feel,” Mrs. Miller says. “I am doing what I love the most, and what I was put on this earth to do. I wake up in the morning thinking how much I love my job.” How does she feel about The Howard School? “The family feel, support and love between students, parents, teachers, and administration are parallel to none. The children from preschool through 8th grade not only thrive academically, but they have a solid sense of self-worth, respect for others and a love for their school and peers.”
