One of the key highlights of a Carden education is that each teacher is required to really know each student. Fourth grade teacher Mrs. Livesey says, “I have come to appreciate the individuality of each child. Each child is greatly loved by a parent and I have come to cherish that quality.”
Mrs. Livesey holds a BA in History from UCLA. She began her teaching career in 1985 when her son’s school needed a first grade teacher. They asked if she would be willing to attend the Carden courses that would qualify her to teach in a Carden classroom. She has been teaching ever since. She has taught K, 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades in the Carden schools; since coming to Howard in 2000 she has taught both 3rd and 4th grades.
Mrs. Livesey’s specialty in her class includes helping students master the ability and skill to outline material for tests, teaching students to write a descriptive paragraph, help them comprehension what they read and sharing their excitement for American History. Mrs. Livesey loves the Carden curriculum because she suits the curriculum to the maturity of each child. “Every aspect of literature, math, history, spelling, science, and learning to read are so uniquely taught.” She also adds, “The next best thing at The Howard School is having Mr. Reed as our Headmaster. He has a unique ability to reach each child individually through his humor, kindness and love of learning.”
